In November 2006 Void partnered with The North West Institute of Further and Higher Education to commission a temporary artwork by a student undertaking the HND Fine Art course.
The commission, as part of the students’ professional practice module was intended to assist students in the realisation and detailed planning involved in submitting professional exhibition proposals for galleries.
Students were asked to submit a detailed proposal document outlining an artwork for Void made in response to the work of Theresa Nanigian or Common Culture. They were encouraged to consult with Void staff regarding the planning, siting and execution of work. This process was aimed at developing a greater awareness of the use of space and large scale planning for any problems they may encounter in creating such work.
All the proposals received were of an exemplary standard and after a difficult selection process the work of Tyrone Patterson was chosen for its visual impact, meeting all the requirements of the brief.
Two other students Rosaleen O’Callaghan and Cathal Mc Ginley were highly commended for their proposed work.
