David Beattie and Void Gallery are delighted to launch the Slowtime website : slowtime.ie

Explore with your sound on.

slowtime.ie is an archive of the audio recordings taken during a number of sound walks and workshops held along the River Foyle in 2021, which formed part of the ongoing project Slowtime.

Slowtime is led by artist David Beattie, and is commissioned by Void and generously funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Community participation is at the heart of the project as the local community are invited to consider the ebb and flow of the river and their natural environment. David Beattie invites you to take part by recording your surrounding environment. A dedicated recording equipment lending library is available from Void – email hello@derryvoid.com for more information on how to lend the equipment. You can also take recordings on your phone. Recordings can be sent to slowtimevoid@gmail.com

Slowtime addresses place, the environment, and our relationship to time through the rhythm of the tides. Participants are encouraged to rethink their relationship with the river and their natural environment, prompting introspection and an examination of personal and collective histories.

As part of Slowtime, the artist David Beattie and Void Gallery have hosted a series of events, running throughout Summer 2021. This has included numerous sound walks, as well as walks exploring the heritage of Derry City.

A full list of upcoming events can be accessed on slowtime.ie
