Join PhD Researcher Ashab Ahmad for a Memory Session on the Orchard Gallery (1978 to 2003), Derry’s first contemporary visual arts space. The event will take place at Void Art Centre on Thursday 28 May 2026, 6-8pm.
This is an opportunity to share your experiences of the gallery over some warm refreshments, as well as to discuss the gallery’s programme and its legacy. Everyone is welcome regardless of whether they remember the Orchard Gallery or simply wish to learn more about its history. Ashab will display photographs, documents, publications, and articles on the Orchard Gallery that have been retrieved from archival material at the Void Art Centre. Participants are encouraged to bring in any items in their own possession that they feel would be relevant to the discussion. Whether you fancy a casual chat with other participants or a more critical consideration of lessons for the current context, this event seeks to stimulate new conversations about the Orchard Gallery within the city.
Join us on Saturday 16 November, from midday to 3pm, for an afternoon event with artist, organic gardener and Void Art Centre researcher-in-residence, Pamela Whitaker. This event will expand on climate change gardening, which encourages the development of creativity both within ourselves and as part of our home and local environments.
Pamela will encourage the development of skills to promote gardens that are both productive and restorative. She will showcase examples from artists who garden and inspire your capacity to regenerate your home garden and local surroundings with both edible and nature friendly landscapes ☁️🌦️ The afternoon will also offer a chance to consider weather in response to the Mikhail Karikis exhibition and how weather changes will impact how we cultivate food in different ways. After the discussion, we will walk together whilst reflecting on the greening of streetscapes and how we can each contribute to the nature of life in the city.
*Please note, this event involves walking which will predominantly be on even ground. If you have access needs, please let us know by emailing cecelia@derryvoid.com or calling us at 028 7130 8080 between 10am-5pm, Tuesdays-Saturdays.
This is a free, drop-in event, meeting at Void Art Centre.
