Description
Dinh Q. Lê’s ‘The colony’ is a major new video installation comprising of three parts and featuring newly filmed footage of a cluster of islands off the west coast of Peru: the home of huge colonies of sea birds, and the source of vast guano harvesting in the mid-19th century that made possession of the islands hotly contested between America, Spain and Peru – and the scene of much human suffering and exploitation. Lê’s installation conveys a drama of absurdity, suffering and greed played out on an almost unimaginably desolate setting.
